How Can Performance Coaching Help Your Child?

Performance coaching is an unfamiliar concept to many and can be easily confused with academic tutoring. The two are distinct, however, in that tutoring is usually strictly academic in nature, while coaching offers something more akin to mentorship or a more holistic kind of personal guidance. Where a tutor will simply grade your child’s essay and hand it back covered in red marks, with advice on how to improve the writing, an academic performance coach will provide assistance with organization of school tasks and time management both related to school and otherwise. As such, even a good student can receive academic coaching and benefit from it via reduced stress and a happier overall well-being.

This sort of coaching is especially important for middle and high school students, as students receive less supervision and guidance from their teachers and are expected to become more independent without much instruction on what that looks like. Considering performance coaching for your student may help them learn how to have a happier and healthier existence while still in a very challenging time of life.

At Wellspring, we regard both adults and children as wholes, not just parts pieced together. For a child, struggling in one area can be overwhelming, and detrimental in all others. Let us know how we can help.

Stress Signs in Students

Sometimes it’s hard for adults to understand how signs and symptoms of stress manifest in teenagers and even younger kids. Even a parent may not see when their student is experiencing a stressful or anxious situation, because teens and kids express themselves in different ways, sometimes not in ones that adults recognize as stress instead of just acting out.

Whether it’s an inexplicable illness, sudden aggression, or just silence, seek help if your student exhibits any of these symptoms.

How Diet Affects Mood

While there may be many other reasons that your child’s mood and stress levels are fluctuating, one of the simplest yet most often overlooked solutions is to consider their diet. Maybe they have an allergy or are reacting poorly to a certain preservative, or perhaps they simply consume too much artificial dye on a regular basis.

All of these can cause stress and negatively affect your child’s mood.
