Focus on the Self to Achieve Your Goals

The New Year has finally arrived. What did you do to start 2018? Did you make a resolution or a decide to accomplish a new goal this year?

In order to accomplish the goals or plans you’ve set forth for the new year, it’s important to remain connected to your present self. Some of the most common resolutions made involve an imagined version of a future self – whether it’s weight loss, career success, financial success or something else. To follow through on your resolutions, you must learn to appreciate and cherish your present self through the process.

Want to talk about how you can make a change for yourself this year? We provide family and individual services for adults, adolescents, children, and families. Contact us at Wellspring Behavioral Health today to learn more about our services.

Don’t Let Your Thinking Sabotage Your Goals

What do you see when you look into your future? Many set their New Year resolutions based on what they want to be or look like in the future, but this image is far disconnected from your present self. It’s no wonder why so many resolutions made early in the year with a mindset that focuses on long-term achievement in a short time fails.

A sense of connectedness to both your present and future self is essential for achieving your long-term goals. In other words, you’re more likely to delay gratification when you see the self that’s receiving the benefit of a goal as essentially the same person you are now.

It’s Never Too Late to Put Yourself First

We have a great deal of freedom, but many of us are prisoners. We’re imprisoned by ideas that hold us back from seeing the countless options available to us.

These ideas keep us trapped in cages constructed by a cultural discourse that makes us believe we’re free when in reality we’re just waiting for someone to release us from captivity and tell us what to do next.
